At the birth of this great country that we live in, a speech was given by Patrick Henry.  It was in this speech that he uttered the words “Give me liberty, or give me death.  In the meeting, there was present a Baptist minister who spoke of Patrick’s attitude while delivering the words.  He said “Excitement began to play more and more upon his features, as the tendons of his neck stood out white and rigid like whipcords.”

Patrick understood that liberty was a God given gift and it was worth dying for.

Christ has given his children (those that are saved) liberty to serve him.

2Cor 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty.

Then we are told to stand in that liberty.  WE ARE TO STAND!!!

Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

And to understand that we are called unto this liberty and to use it to serve one another.

Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

What is this liberty to which Paul was speaking of?

He is speaking the liberty to serve our God!!!

We, being no more bound to the law of bondage and sin, but being bound to the law of liberty!

James 1:21-25 says this.

Jas 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Jas 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [therein], he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

There are many things that we are to be peaceful about.  As a matter of fact we are to do what Rom 12:18 says.  “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

However, there are some things that we as God’s children should be willing to die for.

Our liberty to have church was given to us by God, and we should be willing to fight for that liberty.

How do we fight you ask?  Simple, realize that:

  • Man.
  • Government.
  • Organizations.
  • Leaders
  • Doctors.
  • Family

Have no given right to dictate if a church is allowed to meet and serve there God!

Are you willing to stand fast in the liberty to which you are called?

Every year, Christians are killed because they choose to exercise their right to serve the one and only true God and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Why is it that in America, we have the ability to worship Him but choose not to during the easy times?  And why do people think they will die for that liberty when they won’t exercise that liberty simply because government says you can’t?

The enemy will try to spy out our liberty and slowly and methodically steal it away a little at a time so that he can put us back into bondage and bind us so we don’t serve God.  Gal 2:4 says “And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:”  We should always be watchful and stand ready to fight to hold onto our right to serve freely.

We need some:

  • Daniels that will go to the lion’s den.
  • Stephens that will preach unto death.
  • Pauls that will offer their bodies as a living sacrifice.
  • Antipas that will be faithful martyrs for Christ.

Be a Christian that will say “Give me liberty to serve the one and only true God, or give me death”!!!
